Lithology and Thickness
The Cuizhuang Fm is composed of variegated shale and minor quartz sandstone, intercalated with calcareous sandstone, glauconite quartz sandstone and carbonaceous shale. Oolitic hematite (Fe-oolite) and siderite are intercalated respectively in the basal and the middle parts of the formation. Ripple marks and desiccation cracks are often seen on bedding surfaces in sandstone. It is rather stable both in lithological character and thickness in the distribution area, and may serve as index horizon for regional correlation. It is 213 m thick in the reference section, but variable among different areas, for example it is about 197 m in Mianchi, 159-227 m in Ruyang and Lin'an; 130 m at Wufoshan, Yanshi; 208 m at Xiaodingshan, Fangcheng; 195 m in Wuyang City.
